Easter weekend
Got some time in on the plot this weekend. Jobs included planting the rest of my Broad Beans (about a dozen or so plants in now), making a small fleece cloche for the spinach I sowed recently (to try and keep the birds and beasties off it until it gets big enough to cope). I also went to the garden centre to get some bags of manure, half of which I spread on the bed destined to become my new cold frame. I finally picked up the glass from my parents on Friday - seven 'secondary glazing' panels they no longer needed. With the addition of some wooden stakes and screws to hold the panels firmly, they should make a large cold frame for growing salad crops etc. Having manured the bed and covered it with black fabric to warm up, I will construct the frame soon.
I also bought some creosote (substitute) and painted our wooden bench and two walls of the shed. You could smell it right across the allotment site! Mmmm.
