Pressies

I hope everyone got what they wanted for Xmas!

Among my pressies were a couple of gardening books, a little one with some interesting tips (the name of which escapes me at the moment) and a copy of Monty Don's The Complete Gardener. People seem to have mixed views on Monty, but I like him and his ethos (you shouldn't take Gardener's World as his final word on gardening). I find his books a very good read when I can't get onto the plot - I can almost hear his voice in my head as I'm reading!

I also got a hand cylinder mower for Xmas - very useful as we have no power on the allotments and the two petrol mowers kept by the association always seem to be in very high demand (or not working) when I want to cut the grass on my plot! I shall have to rearrange my tiny shed to accommodate it, but I think it will be very useful in the summer.

I've got Monty on my list of books to get, the book you have as well as Fork to Fork which I enjoyed when I saw a few episodes on tv.

First time I saw Monty he planted up a tub on This Morning wearing a white shirt with the cuffs done up and didn't get even a tiny bit dirty, I've been an admirer ever since! Plus I'd rather hear his voice in my head than than of Mr Titchmarsh anytime!

Have a great New Year and sorry about the squash!

Hi,

I agree about Monty Don (oddly enough, the first time I saw him was also on This Morning whist dodging a Uni lecture) as I got "The Complete Gardener" & "Fork to Fork" for xmas and am really enjoying both books. It's his mix of honest passion and practicality that attracts me - inspirational without being overwhelming.

By the way, what make/model of mower is that? It looks like the one I'm looking at getting in the summer so I'd be interested to hear how it works out.
