Parsnips a-plenty
Visited the plot today to drop off a new incinerator I'd bought from Wilkos, and suddenly decided to dig up all my remaining parsnips. They were showing signs of starting to re-grow, and apparently this can make them woody. So I've now got a carrier bag chock full of 'nips ranging from little baby ones up to a few whoppers. I expect I will be able to give some away to folk at work, but will try to blanch and freeze down a load for use in the coming months. I also lifted about a dozen leeks, and I think I've still got around two dozen left in the ground! Lots of leek and potato soup I think!
I finally managed to buy some Rootrainers today from the RHS Wisley shop. I've been looking around in local garden centres for them, with no luck. As I was given some National Garden Centre vouchers for my birthday and Xmas, I spent some of those on 4 trays of 32 cells, which should give me plenty of growing space for new seedlings! I also got hold of a copy of Fork to Fork by Monty Don from the Wisley bookshop, which I had also been after for a while.
Other purchases at the weekend were seeds from Wilkos, nice and cheap.
